Spring is here in New Zealand and the temperatures are warming up. Blue skies and little wind for the past three days have seen me outdoors much more. Once again lunch today was al fresco.
With little in the way of appointments in my calendar for this week I downloaded a book onto my Kindle and began to read the much anticipated Adam and Eve. Such a shock to hear that Jeffrey Archer has died and that news added a poignancy to this reading but as usual I was absorbed into the story and little else got done until I’d completed the book.
So with that out of the way I can concentrate fully on the construction of the Gathering For Winter Etui.
This is a gift for my friend Fiona and has been a delight to stitch - acorns of many varieties and some beautiful variegated silk threads. Hopefully I can do the construction justice. First I need to read the instructions carefully. I intend to start on the smalls….the scissor fob, the scissor sheath, the pincushion and the needle book. Probably in that order so that I gain some confidence. The lining is a lovely dull orange colour - Fiona’s favourite.
And I did complete three Christmas Ornament strawberries.
Also spent a delightful few hours with a couple of ladies from church sewing lollies (candy, sweets) onto shirts for the Family Day at church. When I was a child the lollies were tossed out in great handfuls by an energetic man who raced around the field but that is now considered to be a health risk. So these are sewn on and the children chase the runner and grab their supply. I was dubious as to how it would work but it was a rousing 100% successful and having proven I can do this task I’m already booked in for next year!
Then Little Sister had some knitting that needed sewing up so I came home from her place with that. Plenty to keep idle hands occupied!
